My Process

My Process

Everyone’s way of working in art is different. While in graduate school, I spent two years focusing on studying the way I work. I realized that there is no clear pattern to my process. The methods I use can be described to some extent, but truthfully a lot of what I do is based on feeling and muscle memory. Sometimes I think long and hard about the steps I need to take to make art and sometimes I just start. More and more I realize I use instinct and many years of training my brain and body to understand materials. Over the last few years I have started documenting my process. This documentation helps show people the basics of the process and understand the effort and skill that goes into making art work. But, remember that this is only brushing the surface of what’s happening behind the scenes of art making. There are 10 years of trial and error, taking classes, practicing techniques and so much more heavily sprinkled into every detail. I hope you enjoy the part of the process I am able to capture and learn a bit about working with the materials as you explore My Process.
